Some thought about IBM's leaving the PC world

Well according to this article, IBM is selling their PC/Laptop business to Lenovo, a Chinese PC manufacturer. I think I'm going to miss IBM. Their laptops were distinct and practically every tech person I know swears by them. I never owned one sadly, but they were unique.

I wonder now if HP will pick up the slack. I've had several Dell's and yes, they are cheap, but they don't even compare to IBM and HP. I have an HP/Compaq NC8000 and it holds it's own against IBM and it blows my old Dell Latitude C840 out of the water. Build quality and reliability are what matter to me. The Dell had several problems including a CDROM drive that worked when it wanted to, a bad ethernet port, and the seams where the plastic pieces met was coming apart. It also was very plasticky and creaked when I picked it up. My HP is rock solid. Has a nice metallic feel to it, but is lighter than the Dell. I've had ZERO problems with it in over a year's use. Hopefully HP will now take up where IBM left off and cut into Dell's lead. Unfortunately I doubt with the current management in place that will happen.
